Google has allowed licensed betting and casino apps on the Play Store in Brazil

Google has officially opened its Play Store in Brazil to licensed betting and casino apps. This marks a major shift, aligning the platform with Brazil’s regulated gambling market.

Previously, only apps from Caixa Econômica Federal were allowed. These covered state lotteries and horse racing. Private betting operators had to rely on unofficial methods to reach users.

Now, operators with valid licences from Brazil’s Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA) can list their apps directly on the Play Store. To qualify, the app must be linked from the operator’s official website.

This change follows strong lobbying from the betting sector. Industry leaders argued that legal apps can help reduce the use of unlicensed platforms. Licensed apps also offer safer play. Features like spending limits and responsible gaming tools are mandatory—measures illegal operators often lack.

Google has also updated its advertising policy. Google Ads will now allow licensed betting companies to run campaigns. Ads may appear in search results and directly on the Play Store, provided the advertiser meets Brazil’s legal requirements.
