Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a decree aimed at combating the operations of online casinos in Ukraine. The decree, now available on his official website, outlines several measures to address the growing concerns surrounding gambling addiction.
One significant aspect of the decree mandates the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine to develop a framework for restricting gambling advertisements within a month. Additionally, it calls for the prohibition of individuals registering multiple accounts, imposes limits on gaming time, mandates organisers to introduce measures for responsible gaming, and advocates for the implementation of a state monitoring system. Furthermore, there will be a nationwide campaign to raise awareness about the risks of gambling addiction.
In a move to protect military personnel, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has been directed to enforce a ban on access to online casinos and other gambling establishments. This directive follows alarming statements by Rada deputy Oleksiy Goncharenko, who highlighted the prevalence of gambling addiction among soldiers serving on the front lines. Goncharenko reported that a staggering nine out of ten soldiers are affected by this issue, often resulting in financial hardship and debt.
The urgency of the matter was underscored by a petition on Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s website, which swiftly garnered the necessary 25,000 signatures for consideration.
