Bookmakers and casinos in the UK outperform other industries in effectively verifying the ages of their clients

The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) has celebrated a notable achievement in British bookmakers’ and casinos’ age verification checks, with record compliance rates. Independent statistics from the auditor Serve Legal reveal a 91.4% age verification pass rate for bookmakers and 98% percent for casinos.

These figures show a 30% percent increase since Serve Legal commenced auditing performance back in 2009. They also position the betting and gaming sector as the leader in age verification compliance across the UK, surpassing other industries like supermarkets, convenience stores, and petrol stations. Notably, compliance rates in this sector outstrip those in the alcohol and lottery sectors by 10 to 15 percent.

Wes Himes, BGC’s Executive Director for Standards and Innovation, expressed profound gratitude to Serve Legal for their steadfast commitment over the past 15 years, highlighting their role in driving this positive change.

Himes noted the indispensable economic role played by bookmakers and casinos on the UK’s high streets, as well as in the broader leisure and tourism sector. However, he stressed that economic contributions must be accompanied by the highest standards of responsibility and compliance.

The Italian gambling regulator has officially announced new regulations concerning bonuses

Starting June 1, the Italian Customs and Monopolies Agency (ADM) is implementing new rules for managing bonuses in the gambling sector. These changes aim to provide clarity on bonus usage, terms, payment methods, and tax implications.

Operators had long sought these adjustments since 2006 due to ambiguity in calculating bonus costs for tax purposes. The new regulations will factor in both bonuses and player stakes for tax computations. Additionally, the ADM will introduce a streamlined process for rectifying palpable errors, addressing longstanding disputes between bookmakers and customers.
