The Kazakh gambling industry strongly criticises the proposed payment monopoly
Gambling operators in Kazakhstan are raising alarms over proposed legislation that aims to overhaul payment regulations for the gambling and fintech sectors. The Kazakhstan Fair Gambling Campaign, a lobby group, contends that the government failed to consult stakeholders on its plans to establish a Unified Accounting System (UAS).
The centralised system mandated by president Kassym-Jomart Tokayev is intended to enhance government oversight over gambling activities. However, critics argue that the system would entrust payment processing to a private monopoly. They draw comparisons to the controversial Kazakhstan Betting Accounting Center (BAC) initiative, which was abandoned amidst allegations involving a former vice minister and accusations of bribery.
The Kazakhstan Fair Gambling Campaign has highlighted concerns regarding the lack of transparency surrounding the ownership and operational structure of the proposed UAS.
