Kenya to impose restrictions on online casino advertising

Kenya is set to impose restrictions on online betting and casino advertising, as outlined in an agreement approved by the High Court of Kenya.

The document reveals that the Kenya Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) will now oversee the enforcement of discontinuing the use of the browser’s speed dial function by gaming operators for promoting bets, lotteries, and gambling activities.

This decision signifies a notable advancement in Kenya’s efforts to regulate online gambling and advertising. It serves as a poignant reminder that, although the Internet offers avenues for business expansion, it is imperative to safeguard against the exploitation of vulnerable groups, particularly minors.

While an agreement has been reached, the resolution of other issues regarding the regulation of betting and gambling advertising is still pending. A court hearing on these unresolved matters is slated for May 9.
