This collaboration marks another step in Spinomenal’s expansion into the UK market. With Rank Group operating well-known UK brands such as Grosvenor Casinos and Mecca Bingo, the partnership will bring more variety to their casino offerings, giving players access to a broader selection of exciting slot games.

The deal also paves the way for future content releases from Spinomenal’s studio, ensuring regular updates and fresh experiences for players.

In July 2024, Spinomenal strengthened its European presence by partnering with Jacks.nl in the Netherlands, integrating its portfolio into JVH Gaming & Entertainment Group’s platform.

Meanwhile, two trade associations in the Netherlands have raised concerns about the rising amount of money being spent on illegal gambling, following the release of the Dutch Gambling Authority’s (KSA) half-yearly monitoring report for 2024.

The report, which reviews the state of the licensed online gambling market, shows a concerning trend. According to the Licensed Dutch Online Gambling Providers (VNLOK) and the Dutch Online Gambling Association (NOGA), more money is expected to flow to illegal gambling sites this year, despite fewer players using these platforms.

The figures tell a mixed story. In the first half of 2024, an estimated 95% of players chose legal gambling providers, up from 90% in 2023. However, the gross gaming revenue going to illegal providers has risen to 13% for 2024, compared to 12% last year.

Helma Lodders, VNLOK Chair, and Eric Konings, NOGA Acting Director, notes: “It’s encouraging that more players are turning to legal providers. But it’s worrying that those who choose illegal sites are spending even more money.”

This trend raises serious concerns about protecting vulnerable groups such as minors, young adults, and problem gamblers. Illegal gambling sites remain highly appealing to these groups. Recent research shows that minors can easily access these illegal platforms, putting them at significant risk.

As Lodders and Konings pointed out, these vulnerable players may be disappearing from official statistics, but they need extra protection from the risks of illegal gambling.
