Playson Secures Multi-Brand Deal with Play North, While GambleAware Releases Annual Treatment and Support Survey

Playson, a well-known gaming supplier, has announced a new partnership with multi-brand operator Play North, which will see its entire iGaming portfolio integrated into the operator’s platforms across the Dutch and Finnish markets.

Play North currently oversees three brands in three European markets. As part of this collaboration, Playson’s popular titles will now be available on Play North’s Dutch platform, Kasino, as well as its Finnish site, Pikakasino, which operates on the Finnplay system.

Having launched in Finland in 2019 and expanded into the Netherlands in 2021, Play North has been working to establish a strong presence among players in these regions. Playson, for its part, aims to leverage its market expertise to enhance its position in the European gaming sector.

This summer, the supplier has focused heavily on the EU market, expanding into Sweden through a partnership with Premier Gaming in June. More recently, in early August, Playson shifted its attention to Latin America by securing a B2B gaming licence in Peru.

Blanka Homor, Sales Director at Playson, commented: “Play North has achieved impressive growth in the iGaming industry within a relatively short period, and we are excited to offer our top-performing titles to their players in the Netherlands and Finland. Our portfolio continues to grow, and Play North’s players will now have access to engaging games that have already earned widespread praise.”

Daphne Xerri, Chief Product Officer at Play North, added: “Playson’s diverse range of exciting titles has consistently resonated with Dutch and Finnish audiences, and we are thrilled to bring them to our platforms. We are always eager to work with leading industry providers, and Playson is a perfect match. Through this partnership, we are confident that Play North will further solidify its brand by offering our players a fresh selection of industry-leading games.”

Meanwhile, GambleAware has unveiled its latest Annual Treatment and Support Survey, conducted by YouGov in November 2023, which tracks the demand for and utilisation of treatment and support services for gambling-related harms across Great Britain. The survey engaged 18,178 adults, providing key insights into the ongoing challenges posed by gambling.

A striking finding from the survey estimates that 1.65 million children under 18 are living in households where an adult is struggling with problem gambling. Even more concerning is the fact that children exposed to problem gambling within their household are four times more likely to develop gambling problems themselves. The report shows that 8% of these children are affected, compared to just 2% of those who do not live with a problem gambler.

For the first time, the report also explores the concept of ‘legacy harms’—the long-term consequences faced by former gamblers, which include financial difficulties and physical health issues. Among respondents who have stopped gambling, 18% admitted to having felt the urge to gamble again within the past six months.

In response to these findings, GambleAware has called on policymakers to address the growing “normalisation of gambling in daily life” and to implement stronger protections for children and young people. Their recommendations include a ban on TV gambling adverts before the watershed, more prominent health warnings on all gambling advertising, and the prohibition of gambling marketing at sporting events.

Zoë Osmond, Chief Executive of GambleAware, commented: “The figures released today in our Treatment and Support Survey underscore the extensive impact that gambling’s normalisation is having on individuals, families, and communities across society. The research highlights a troubling link between early exposure to gambling and an increased risk of harm later in life. For the first time, we also see clear evidence of the enduring effects of legacy harms.”

She continued, “Gambling harms can affect anyone, which is why it is essential to break down the stigma associated with them and encourage open conversations about people’s experiences.”
